PricePaid: 300 GBP (New) Purchased From: Local store Model Year: 2000Features: [7] Nato back and sides with Spruce top. The neck is also NATO with a rosewood fingerboard and 22 frets. Mine is all black.
It comes with a built in System 46 Preamp w/ Piezo Pickup which is handy for live gigs - the plugged in sound is not bad for this price point.
The guitar is also very light and fine to use for long periods. Sounds: [7] At this price it really doesn't sound bad at all. It can also hold its own plugged in. The sound is lively and bright especially for quite a small bodied acoustic.
It's perfect for playing acoustic rhythm along with a loive bad or sitting at home composing, recording or fiddling around.
Action, Fit & Finish: [6] For an acoustic the action is very good. Where mine is let down is the quality of the finish. With a quick inspection all looks fine - looking down the body when held in the light reveals a paint job that looks like it was done in a dusty workshop. It's not dreadful but should be like this.
Playability is what is most important and this it does well.
Reliability & Durability: [7] It's got a few knocks but this is my sitting round the house guitar. It gets hung up or placed in a fairly thin gig bag - all my other guitars live in hard shell cases.
It's a great guitar for live situations as it sounds fine for a crowded bar and you don't have to worry about it much. It stays in tune well too! Overall Rating: [7] Yamaha make some great sounding value guitars. At this price point it's not a bad guitar at all. It's a shame about the finish on the back but that doesn't detract too much from the over positive aspects.
This is cheap enough for a beginner guitar and good enough for a gigging musician. |
