NEX cutaway body style

Solid Cedar top with laminated Nato back and sides. It has a rosewood fingerboard.

It's equipped with the N4B pre-amp - this is the best feature of this guitar.

Sounds: [7]
I find the acoustic sound fairly average but the plugged in sound using the N4B pre-amp is where these Takamine's come alive - they are great for live work.

The sound could be considered warm and mellow.

Action, Fit & Finish: [7]
The finish is quite plain and flat (matte) looking - however, I'd consider this more of a workhorse guitar rather than something stunning to look at and pose with.

The action is a little high for my tastes even having shaved the bridge a little. However, I now leave this in an open tuning for playing slide around the house.

The neck is also quite graining and I can feel that as I work the neck which does bug me a little as I prefer a much smoother finish.

Reliability & Durability: [8]
I've used this live with no problems. It feels like it could stand up to loads of use. I've bumped it into a few things i.e. mike stand etc and there are no noticable marks.

Overall Rating: [7]
I can't remember exactly what I paid for it but it was good value, in part as it was about to be discontinued. I believe Takamine preamp equipped guitars now have a tuner built in.

Overall a good, reliable intermediate guitar that would well suit a gigging player who wants to plug straight into the PA.
