Model Year: 2008

Mahogany body & neck, Flame Maple top, AAA Indian Rosewood fingerboard, 24 3/4" scale, 22 medium frets, six on a side Kluson (Fender style) vintage tuners, two humbucking pickups, hardtail bridge, American made pots & switch, one volume, one tone and one three way switch. First class construction and set-up for any price range. I haven't put it on a scale but I'd guess it weighs 6 or so pounds. If "features" means lots of stuff I'd say no it doesn't have a bunch of widgets. If "features" means all I need it's a winner.

I play mostly blues these days. I've pretty much used Strats and Teles for the last thirty years. I've had some humbucker equipped guitars before that but not lately. I don't use any effects or distortion pedals. If I use an amp that doesn't have one, I have a Danelectro Tremolo pedal. I run the amp hot and control everything from the guitar. This guitar (Missippi Bluesmaster) seems pretty well suited to my playing style although it will take a while to get used to the humbuckers...they're a bit hotter than single coils. The clean sound with the guitar volume backed off a bit is not muddy and wide open its bright and sustains forever. Pinch harmonics are a breeze...I like it. All things considered, I think I've made a good choice.

I'm impressed with the set-up. It's unusual for me to play one as it comes from the factory but this one is very near perfect. The frets are "medium" I usually go for the biggest (Dunlop 6100 or 6105) but the stock frets on this are nice and I doubt I'll change them...it plays great. The finish is beautiful, I've written to St. Blues to ask if its poly or nitro but have no answer so far. I suspect its poly but it feels like nitro...very nicely done. It there is a flaw I haven't found it. I looked at the control cavity and the soldering/wiring looks good.

I'll have to get back to you on the reliability thing. I don't have any reason to believe this guitar to be anything but a quality instrument, easily equal to any of my Fenders or my Hamer Goldtop P90.

This is a great guitar for a real fair price. I'd recommend it to anyone. I didn't have any expectations and really didn't need another guitar. I have several. I picked it up, played it and liked it immediately so I bought it.

All Mahogany, single cut, solid body guitar with bolt on construction and dual fluid 21 humbuckers that uses a 24.75" scale. Utilizes a rosewood fingerboard and has a flame maple veneer top. Vintage 15:1 kluson tuners wind the strings. The Korean import has a bone nut and is extensively set-up in the St. Blues workshop in Memphis, Tennessee with a set of Cleartone hybrid 10-11 strings. The violin amber finish on the top nicely matches the natural finish of the mahogany on the rest of the guitar.

Experimental power pop/progressive rock to british blues tones can be squeezed out of this axe. The humbuckers don't quite compare to American Gibson fare, but nicely edge out most of the korean/indonesia/chinese pickups out there by actually providing a pleasant useable tone. Not the hottest pickups but smooth. The combination of a bolt on neck and Gibson scale is especially pleasing. Gives a little more punch with the bolt on construction than a les paul.

This guitar came very well set up. I think it's part of their stick to get them out well set up. Neck pocket was tight as can be and is simply gorgeous to look at.

Reliability & Durability: [10]
Haven't owned it for long, but based on fit and finish, I'm not worried.

This thing is like playing a punchier six pound(!) les paul. My ears love it, as does my back. Cudos to St. Blues.
