PricePaid: 329 GBP (New) Purchased From: Soho Soundhouse Model Year: 2003Features / Ease of Use: [10] A dream of a piece of equipment for those of us that live in an apartment. I love vintage valve sounds and this is a great way of getting them without cranking a valve amp up to window shaking levels.
Fantastic modelling of both amps and effects units:
- 36 Legendary and Classic Amp Models
- 24 Cab & 4 Mic models
- 50 Stompbox and Studio Effects
- 128 Channel Memories
- Routing Options
- Deep Editing
- USB Digital I/O
- Built-in Chromatic Tuner
- Full MIDI Support
The software that connects to my computer is fantastic. The ability to also download patches in seconds is such a great selling point. Want a Stevie Ray Vaughan sound? Perhaps Slash? It's all there with a few clicks.
Facility to update the firmware online is great too - so your PODxt should always be up-to-date
The manual is good and you do need to read it to get the most out of it. Sound: [9] It's vintage city - I love plugging in my Gretschs or various Fenders for some great vintage tones.
This will give you any tone you are looking for - the amp range is very diverse so whatever style you play I'm sure there is a sound in there to suit.
As a home recording tool it's fantastic. Reliability & Durability: [10] Extremely durable metal case. Feels like it could survive a trip down the stairs.
It's electronic so it does always face the prospect of malfunction but after 2 years I've had no problems. Overall Rating: [9] It's was on the strength of this that I bought my Flextone III 2x12 combo. One I use with headphone and the other I use when playing out or when I want some volume.
The floor board is quite expensive especially in relation to the cost of the POD. However, as I have the amp I can use it for both and it justifies the cost - it is also extremely well made and tough.
If I lost this or it packed up I'd probably replace it as I find it so useful.
