I bought this for a toy. I gig with a 78 Precision and had a Gibson Thunderbird. I've owned Rickenbacker 4001's, USA Fender Jazz's (Deluxe actives and Passives), an Epiphone Thunderbird and Jap Jazz Aerodyne. This McCartney bass made in China by Johnson was amazingly excellent. Now I'm not saying it's as good as A Hofner - more as good as the basses I describe above - but if you are a young bass player on a budget - before you lash out £330 on an Ephiphone violin bass check out the Johnson. The sound is amazing - like a double bass, very bassy and full. Neck and action lovely, finish is wonderful. So much was I impressed with the bassy sound from this short scale bass that I sold my Thunderbird and bought a new re-release Gibson SB3 SG short scale bass (andy Fraser etc) to gig. I may one day buy a Hofner - but if I gave my ricky's, my 78 Precision and my new Sg bass all 9/10 - I'd give this Chinese Johnson Violin bass 7/10. Better than my Epiphone Tbird, my Jap Jazz and certainly bettter than my USA Jazzes!!!!

Don't know how reliable it would be 0 but it seems pretty solid. I wondered if it was just because it was hollow bodied so I tried a Tokai semi acoustic bass - we all know how good Tokai are - and this cheap little Chinese guitar had a much fuller brighter sound - and - played better

7/10...... but for the money 11/10
