A 1962 Gretsch Tennessean reissue with HiLoTron PUPs (just like it should be) - I'm just not a fan of the 6119s with the FilterTrons. I have 2 FilterTron equipped Gretsch's and they are great PUPs but The HiLo Trons are what should be on this guitar - think BEATLES!

It's got a laminated maple body with a beautiful dark burgandy stain. It's 16" wide and 2" deep. You'll find 3 volumes - 1 Master and 1 for each of the PUPs. There are also three switches. 1 is a standby, another is a 3 way selector switch and the final is a 3 position tone.

The hardware is chrome and there is Bigsby B6C trem fitted.

It's Japanese made but don't let the fact that it isn't made in the USA put you off - this is not an issue to be concerned with.

A good quality hard case came with the guitar.

It's got all the features you'd expect of this reissue.

To me the HiLo Trons give a little extra twang over the FilterTrons. If you like the Beatles you'll love this guitar.

The level of the PUPs is slightly lower than some of my guitars but that is not too much of a big deal.

If you love the classic sound this'll give it to you.

Action, Fit & Finish: [9]
Action is good and played well straight out of the case.

I know some people are not fans of the floating brigde but I am used to them and they don't cause me any problems.

The finish is excellent and the burgandy is such a nice colour. This is a very playable guitar and surpises many people who aren't fans of wide bodied semi acoustics.

After about 6 months of ownership there is SLIGHT signs of the PUP surrounds tarnishing. However, I do live a stones throw from the sea and in a climate where this is more likely to happen.

Reliability & Durability: [8]
It's a well made guitar and dependable. I would never gig without a couple of guitars but it's unlikely that you'd get trouble with this Gretsch.

I like Gretsch strap locks but you do have to be careful when you unscrew them that you don't actually unthread the whole thing from the body.

Don't forget this is a hollow body so you have to be a bit more careful but for what it is you can be sure that it is well built.

Overall Rating: [9]
I was pleasantly surprised when first playing this guitar. I was pleased when they released a much more "George Harrison" spec with the HiLo trons and feel they've done a great job.

Again another name change - Tennessean becomes the Tennessee Rose just like the Country Classic becoming the Country Classic. I think it's because Chet Atkins took the name across to Gibson so I understand why just a little bit of a shame as everything else is so much like the original.

If this type of guitar is your cup of tea (and it's likely to be if you are reading this) you won't be disappointed when you play this 6119-HT. The Gretsch club is a great one to be in ;)
