PricePaid: 600 USD (New) Purchased From: Japan Model Year: 2005Features: [8] Japanese version of the Fender American 62 Telecaster Custom. This is the standard pickup configuration and not to be confused with the Custom Telecaster that has 2 humbuckers.
The body is Alder with a maple neck and Rosewood fretboard.
The beauty of this baby is it comes equipped with the Texas Special Pick Ups.
Typical vintage with 3 threaded saddles - and old style machine heads.
Mine is in Candy Apple Red and looks mighty fine.
Sounds: [9] Sounds suitably different to my other Telecaster with it's all maple neck and standard vintage pickups. The rosewood neck gives it a little more mellowness (slightly less spank) and the Texas Specials give a little more growl. Action, Fit & Finish: [9] I just can't believe how well these guitars are made for the money. Fender Japan certainly know how to build them. I also have a Mexican Strat and the quality of the Japanese does definately surpass the Mexican made ones in my eyes.
The finish is first rate and that Candy Apple Red really does shine and stand out.
I wish it had a cellulose finish - one of the main points I like about the American Vintage series. Just got to love that smell and I do like my guitars to age a bit. You know? That lived in look.
Reliability & Durability: [10] I've never had any problems with any of my Fender's. I always take a spare when playing out but these guitars rarely let people down. Overall Rating: [8] I already had a 52 Reissue Telecaster but had fallen in love with the look of the bound Telecaster so just had to get one. I had my eye on the American version but these Japanese guitars are such great value.
I do love the Fender American Vintage series and have a few. However, with my addiction to buying guitars you just can't keep going to the extra expense ;)
