Nitrocellulose finish - that you can smell! To me that smell is as exciting as the new car smell. Mine's Ocean Turquoise which I feel is the most beautiful of all the colours avaliable. It's lucky because when we ordered it, it was the only colour left in stock at Fender and we needed it before Christmas.
Alder body with maple "C" shaped neck, rosewood fingerboard with 21 frets. The body has a 3-ply mint green pick guard.
The cool thing about the Jazzmaster's is there are two wiring circuits. As well as a standard voloume and tone there is another circuit with separate volume and tone (the small wheels) - these are the Lead and Rhythm circuits.
Typically of the American Vintage series you get a vintage style strap, cable and the delux tolex case. Sounds: [9] Great Fender single coil sound with some attitude. Sounds great either clean or dirty.
You can play a whole variety of styles but if surf is your thing you'll have it nailed! Action, Fit & Finish: [8] The finish definately has that WOW factor. I couldn't believe it when I opened the case. Everyone that has seen this guitar has remarked on its good looks. If you look very closely there is a slight chip right at the side of the neck pocket. It's not a big deal but it should really of happened - obviously happened when installing the neck.
A lot of people talk wabout needing to shim the necks just a little. It looks like they are now doing this in the factory as mine has definately had this done.
The action is perfect and it played well straight out of the case. Reliability & Durability: [9] Of course it's durable - it's a Fender solid body. It'll be playable for years and years.
Being as it is a cellulose finish it is not going to be as tough as a poly finished guitar. However, this means it'll mature gracefully - a feature that I like. Overall Rating: [9] Not sure fully what price was paid as my girlfriend bought this as a Christmas present (lucky me) - I know she got a good deal though. She was so excited when she saw how very pleased I was to receive this. Sure, I knew it was only the way and I decided what I wanted. For the first couple of weeks of owning this I didn't ever sit down around the house without it in my hands.
This guitar exceeded my expectations and is a good vintage representation.
I'd definately replace this if I had to but I hope to grow old with it. I quite fancy the Jaguar reissue now ;) |
