PricePaid: 900 GBP (New) Purchased From: N/A Model Year: 1996Features: [8] It has a 2 piece ash body with a nice U shaped neck (21 frets). The bridge has 3 brass saddles although it does also come with a 6 saddle bridge - I kept the original on. It also comes wired the original way - I, like most others, redid it the modern way.
The finish is a beautiful butterscotch blonde that is getting darker with age and a black pickguard.
It comes with Vintage Tweed Case, Strap, Cable, Modern Six-Saddle Bridge, Bridge Cover (ashtray), Capacitor and Wiring Diagram (For Updating to Modern Switching Circuit) and Certificate of Authenticity Sounds: [9] It's really got that tele twang that you'd expect. I usually play throuigh tube amps although more recently a Flextone III modelling amp - for those great sounds without annoying the neighbours.
I love the tone of this guitar and
It is surprising versatile but is very much at home playing country, rockabilly, blues etc.
Originally I used 9s on this guitar but I'm now using 10s and it's really given the sound a better edge.
Single coils can suffer a little uwanted noise but I just think the tone they produce is so much better - for my tastes anyway. Action, Fit & Finish: [8] This guitar played great straight out of the box (or should I say really sexy tweed case). The finish is fantastic and like I say above it's maturing nicely too. If I had to pick a flaw it would be that the finish is a little too thick.
Reliability & Durability: [10] You'd be mad not to take a backup to a gig but you are very unlikely to get any problems with this guitar. It's a good, solid guitar that will outlive most users!
We get some humidity variations where I live but this is one guitar that I rarely have to adjust. Overall Rating: [9] This is the guitar that I've owned the longest and probably the one I play most frequently. I can't imagine ever selling her and to say I'd be devastated if I lost her would be an understatement.
It's just amazing that Fender got it so right way back in the early 50s! |
