PricePaid: 219 EUR (New) Purchased From: N/A Model Year: 2005Features / Ease of Use: [9] The Boss DD20 has 23 seconds of delay for a start although I rarely need something that long.
The delay time can be dialed in via a delay time knob - turn for smaller increments and push and turn to move through the range faster. There is also a tap tempo which is useful if you want to match something.
It has 11 different delay modes
SOS (sound on sound)
Twist - a heavy, spinning sound
Warp - gives a weird delay by messing with the feedback and volume
Tape - based on a tape echo. I like this one as I prefer vintage stuff. Even emulates the tape slipage etc. Great sounds from a reliable pedal. For authentic old style slap back this is the one to use.
Analog - based on the Boss DM-2 Analog Delay
Standard - typical Boss Digital Delay pedal sound.
Dual - short and long delays connected in series.
Smooth - smoothes out the delay and gives a reverb sound.
Modulate - gives chorus and flange tyoe effects
Reverse - as you'd expect, reverse playback!
This is one of those things that is easy to use out of the box but you need to spend a little bit of time to really dig into what it is truly capable of.
Sound: [9] I need old style tape echo and a modern sound occassionally and this pedal does them both so well. I love the old style tape echo's but am not so keen on the price tag and reliability.
The fact it handles those two situations so well is a winner for me.
Reliability & Durability: [10] Not had a reliabilty problem with a Boss pedal yet - they are built like tanks.
Overall Rating: [8] I took a long hard look at what was available and this was the one for me. However, much you use something in a shop you often get a more balanced or even quite different view once you have used it at home/playing out for a while. Well I can say that my opinion has only gone up now that I have really found my way round all the sounds.
